Introduction/Purpose
Teaching college students effective reading and note-taking strategies can be difficult if students believe their skills are fully developed. Many first-year students, however, are not prepared for the pace and depth of their courses nor are they ready to learn the material on their own. This week will be full of note-taking strategies to make you better prepared to record the massive amounts of information you are taking in from all of your courses.
This week also touches on critical thinking and how to determine fact from opinion. As a college student, it's important to use your critical thinking skills as you decide on how to study, where to study, etc. Different types of thinking are needed depending on what you are needing to learn and do. Thinking critically takes practice and you will continue to develop and hone this skill over time.
