The established goals of this course are to provide each student with the education and skills to comfortably and fluently read, write and communicate in the English language and to integrate this education into college, career and real-life application and success. Students in the K-CET program will have access to all of the college resources and the staff to help students achieve their personal and professional goals.

- Computer Requirements:
- If students do not have access to a computer off-campus, there are many computers on campus (Buildings 3, 5, 6, 8, and LRC) students are welcome to use to participate fully in their courses. Most public libraries also have computers with internet access available.
- Students will need to have an up-to-date browser and operating system. Students may need some additional software on their computers to take this class. Check the KCC Distance Education webpage for hardware & software requirements.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this ESL course, the student will be able to:
- Respond correctly to the content of simple, direct questions with some grammatical accuracy and pronunciation that can be understood by native English speakers and the ESL Instructor.
- Follow oral directions correctly.
- Apply practical life-skills information concerning the English alphabet and numbers, the calendar, body, health, and clothing to be able to function in everyday, real-life situations related to their immediate needs.
- Improve their use of capital letters, past tense time markers, time word connectors, the connectors ‘and’ and ‘but’, and correct usage of punctuation (commas, periods, and question marks) in simple and compound sentences.
- Engage in discussions pertaining to future career paths, job hunting techniques and interview skills, particularly answering questions for a job interview.
- Advance reading fluency skills by identifying the topic and main idea of paragraphs, scanning for specific information, and summarizing reading passages.
- Read and understand basic multi-paragraph texts.
- Develop vocabulary skills by learning basic synonyms and antonyms that relate to work, school, and community.
- Understand the differences between casual, formal and informal, command and affirmation conversation.

Practice Speaking

Rachel’s page focuses on helping students better express thoughts in English, speak with a more natural American accent, and more easily understand Americans in conversation.
- https://howjsay.com/(Links to an external site.): This is a simple pronunciation tool for individual words. There are recordings of real voices, not text-to-speech synthesis, so the recordings are a very natural and fluid pronunciation style that can be found in the real world.

There are lessons on everything from syllabic stressing to pitch training and vowel sounds. This site is particularly good at teaching linking sounds with a few short readings and several practice tutorials. It includes many video and audio tutorials and several follow-up podcasts and links to other websites with similar tools.

If so, you've come to the right place. This website is a complete English grammar guide filled with the rules of English usage. Each grammatical rule is explained in plain English with several examples, and when needed, counter-examples. English grammar is not always easy to understand, but by using this guide you should be able to remind yourself of the rules of English usage and speak or write English with confidence.

The website will help you learn some basic English expressions and vocabulary related to the medical field.
