  Introduction/Purpose

Welcome to Week 6!  This week, you will explore the topics of cultural competence and engaging in a healthy lifestyle.

There will be a lot of different ideas presented within the cultural competence topic this week so settle in and have an open mind.  It can be difficult for some students to realize and accept that people are different and that's okay.  As a college student, you may be meeting new people for the first time who aren't like the people you grew up with.  This is a wonderful time to learn more about people and begin to grow into the person you are meant to be.

Chapter 11 will have you looking at stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Students are notorious for staying up late studying while eating junk food and drinking too much caffeine!  You may be living on your own for the first time as well and that may feel a little lonely.  Stress will be a big part of being a college student too, so it's so very important to know what your stress feels like, where it's coming from, and how to reduce it.

Physical, mental, and emotional health are part of lifelong strategies, but examining practices while in college and finding solutions for maintaining health can help students discover what works for them. Health is truly the foundation to college success. Without good sleep habits, for example, students will not be able to learn effectively and efficiently. Without managing the negative effects of stress, students will not be able to focus on their courses and assignments.

This week you will have your second quiz which will be over Units 2 and 3, so be sure to plan your week accordingly to give yourself enough time to take this quiz!

Each and every term you will need to meet with your academic advisor to complete your academic planning in order to register for the next term.  You will need to contact your advisor and set up a time to meet with them to do your academic planning. It's important to meet with your advisor regularly since they will know what classes in your program are offered during the year and how to stay on track with your program and your goals.  Information on Parts 1 and 2 for this assignment are located in the Week 3 module.
